Elijah Blue Fescue

Our price $18.00
As its Latin species name (glauca) suggests, blue fescue grass bears a bluish-gray color. This color is its chief selling point and beautifully complements the silvery foliage of a plant such as lamb’s ears. Blue fescue grass is also drought-tolerant and is one of the shorter ornamental grasses. Plant Elijah Blue in full sun and in a well-drained soil. The more sun this ornamental grass receives, the more likely it is to achieve its signature blue-gray color.

Hameln Dwarf Fountain Grass

Our price $18.00

Hameln’ is a dwarf cultivar of Fountain Grass reportedly unsuited for the deep south that often reaches 2- to 3-feet-tall. The white inflorescence resembles a bottle brush and persists into fall. These attractive, 5- to 7-inch-long flowers persist on the plant from summer to fall but shatter in the early winter. The foliage of Fountain Grass is bright green during the summer, but turns to golden brown color in the fall after the flowers begin to die. The foliage arches near the tip and gives the plant a graceful fountain shape. Fountain Grass is an outstanding, elegant, fine-textured ornamental grass. Unlike the species, this cultivar does not reseed itself.

Porcupine Grass

Our price $18.00
This native perennial grass forms low basal leaves and small tufts of leafy culms about 2½–3½' tall. The culms are mostly erect, but they usually lean over to one side after the blooming period because of the heavy weight of the developing grains and awns. The culms are terete, glabrous, and initially pale green; after the blooming period, they become tan or straw-colored. The blades of the alternate leaves are up to 12" long and ¼" across; they are pale to medium green and flat or rolled upward along the margins. The leaf sheaths are longitudinally veined and initially pale to medium green; after the blooming period, they become yellowish green to pale brown. Both the blades and sheaths lack significant hairs. The basal leaves are similar to the alternate leaves, except their blades are a little longer than the blades of the latter. The ligules are white-membranous.

Variegated Maiden Grass

Our price $18.00
It is a perennial grass with gracefully arching leaves. Variegated Maiden Grass has broader leaves than Maiden Grass and its leaves are also white-striped or variegated. This grass may reach 7 feet tall and needs staking to remain erect. However, most people prefer its more natural look. Beautiful coppery-tan plumes stand above the foliage in the fall. 'Variegatus' like other varieties of Miscanthus is valued for it's four season interest.

Like Maiden Grass, it is best to select a sight for your Variegated Maiden Grass in full sun with average soil that is moist but well drained. Be sure to give plenty of room as mature clumps can be 6 feet or more across. Enjoy the plants through the winter and then cut the plants to the ground in the late winter to early spring. Variegated Maiden Grass looks wonderful in groups or masses.
